Re: 1989 2.8L firebird cam??

The Comp offering looks okay. Too bad you don't have a bit more time. Maybe you could give him a gift certificate for a Comp cam, and have them grind you up an XE256H for the little 6.

As for the springs, we use small block "performance" springs in the 2.8/3.1 iron heads with a mild cam. They "drop in", and cost very little (about $2 each). Be sure to use the stamped shield under the spring, or it will "dance". What's commonly refered to as the "Z/28" spring.

Another VERY good choice is Melling MTC-5. It sports a little more duration than the Comp, but not quite as much lift. In a 3.1, it makes GREAT power to about 5,100 RPM.

Comp also makes "Magnum" rockers, in both 1.5 and 1.6 ratio for the little 6. 1.5s with the Comp cam, 1.6s with the Melling, and you'll get as much from the cam as it can offer. NOTE: SBC rockers DO NOT FIT, even though they appear the same, they're "standard" and the 60 degree V6s are "metric" (dimensionally).

Re: 1989 2.8L firebird cam??

well, those guys up there acted like it was a popular thing to mod these cars, so i thought they might be putting up some respectable numbers. i'd call 155 RWHP respectable though... i have one of those old cars, but it probablly wouldn't hold up to an aggressive cam. i've thought about getting a new 2.8 put in it to save gas.

Ha, the 2.8 is the worst engine choice my man... It is not a good modding car, there is almost no aftermarket, the engine is a down right dog.. Do you have one??? if so pm me

Re: 1989 2.8L firebird cam??

no, but it would be cheap! (vs a 3.4 swap). i need a vehicle that would get better MPGs than my truck. and i already have this old car....
