Chevy started painting them blue in 1977.

Re: engine help

The color was "GM Corporate Blue", and as others have stated, replaced Chevrolet Orange for the 1977 model year, and was itself replaced with black in the 1984 model year.

Re: engine help

You need to record the block casting number from the back of the engine behind the drivers side cylinder head. Match that number up with a site like MOR-TEC.com. They carry all kind of casting numbers for GM and even Holley Carbs.

Re: engine help

they started painting the engines in 77. because i have a 1981 c 10 and the valve covers were blue and so is the block. but should be the original motor.

Re: engine help

It's not a Pontiac, and no, Pontiac parts do not interchange with Chevy (engines, that is...). I believe ALL GM engines became "Corporate Blue" in '77, not just the Chevy. I know the Pontiacs and Buicks are, not sure about Olds.
