DIY Vented Hood
well i'm planning to buy a 90-92 galant hood off the junk yard or someplace and vent it. just wondering was tools i need to cut through that metal. I'm also planning to remove the hood reinforcements also too. if you guys havent felt how heavy a GVR4 hood is, its gotta be at least 30+ pounds maybe even heaveir. I am NOT going to rice it out the hood, just need help on how to cut the metal without ruining the hood realllly bad. thanks!

Re: DIY Vented Hood
Why not just buy a carbon fiber hood if your worried about weight.
I have seen a few articles about venting a hood, let me see if I can find them.

Re: DIY Vented Hood
Yea those do look real purtty. At work I work with sheet metal all day and would say if you plan on cutting anny bigger of vents than the ones shown here to go to the local rental house and rent some power shears. They make one hell of a lot nicer cut than the scissors. Although I suppose if you plan on dremeling/grinding and maybe repainting it doesnt matter. But yea I used the shears to put in my sunroof. Do not get center cut sheers thought...they will scratch the hell out of your paint and they suck.

Re: DIY Vented Hood
I wouldn't suggest cutting the hood braces out, they're there for a reason and without them your hood won't hold up for very long at all, it'll start to sag and bow in.

Re: DIY Vented Hood
thanks a bunch guys!! im thinking about leaving the hood braces in now. most likely i'll try to make my hood look like an Evo III hood.

that one is pointless for you. you would need to put it on the right side of the car. hes got it there to get cooler air. the TB is on the left side of a 420a unless you just want it for looks.

Re: DIY Vented Hood
It would still help to bring cold air under the hood and remove some heat.

Re: DIY Vented Hood
I am considering doing the third one...The hood supports on the 1g's doesnt have a symetrical patern in any way so the 2nd link would be alot of work and it would tamper with the integrity of the hood. As would the first link. But it looks like the third link would fit nicely between the hood brace "webing."
