Vibration in my Astra Estate in 2nd and 3rd gears

Hi Everyone,

I have an old Vauxhall Astra Estate 1991 1.4L Merit. Recently, it has started vibrating in 2nd and 3rd gears and slowing down a little. I have also noticed that it does not move fast in the reverse gear as well. Once we noticed a burning smell while in the 3rd gear.

Can any one please tell what I need to do? I am afraid that it is going to break down on the motorway at 2 in the morning one day . Any kindly soul, please advise before my car lands me in serious trouble.
