Check engine light flickers on and off at almost random intervals while driving? 89

89 f150 lariat, 302 8cyl auto.

While driving my check engine light flickers on and off at random. It does it more so above 2000rpm. The light never stays on for more than a half second at a time. Any ideas? It's pre 96 so my scanner won't hookup to it to see if there is any pending codes.

it is flickering because you have codes. Under the hood on the driverside fenderwell is a connector. It is plugged into an empty plug. I don't remember which slots you use but a manual will tell you, but all you do is use a jump wire from one to the other and you can retrieve the cod fom the blinking light on the dash. If you grab a hanes manual it tells you haow. If you can't find one, let me know I will scan the page in mine with the instructions.

I have a hayes manual, unfortunately all the info in it has been wrong, I will see about the check engine code retrieval though, maybe they're right about that one. Thanks, if I have any problems I'll post up.

Here are the pictures of how to jump the connector. Trouble code definitions are readily available.
