I need help programming the key fob for my truck. does anyone know the process?

I'm not sure the batteries are bad. I bought the truck and picked up the fobs later.
someone said to put the key in the ignition turn it on-off-on-off-on-off-on and then hold down the unlock button until the horn sounds then hold down the lock button and turn the key off but that did not seem to work
