Re: Dodge Viper Vector

I have to say, if all you're doing is taking an image into photoshop, then essentially tracing the elements and re-filling them in to replicate the image in a realistic way, I don't really see the point.
What difference is there between the original and yours?
I mean, what do you add to the image?

Re: Dodge Viper Vector

Don't get me wrong as it is a good skill to have and the results are stunning. It's just something that I've always questioned. It's the same with people who paint to replicate photos and end up with essentially a big paint by numbers thing. It kinda makes the point of painting in the first place, redundant.

Re: Dodge Viper Vector

I havent seen the work because its deleted, but if its well done, I have to say i like that type of work. Its the same thing if you do a 3d model off blueprints and it looks photorealistic.

This guy's work is amazing, all of it, 3d, vector, vexel.. apart from those with lots of stickers, but its just a question of what i like or not, but the work is amazing, I wish i could do that - http://dangeruss.deviantart.com/gallery/ , check it out.

For me its (quality vector or vexel) more difficult to do, than to draw my drawings (freehand). And DEFINETLY its a lot more difficult than hand drawing by grid or tracing (no offense at all to those draw that way, but i think its self-cheating and isnt really teaching you anything at all, apart from colouring).

Just my opinion.

Looking at that, they're renders of 3Dstudio models; that is something entirely different to vector drawings in something like illustrator.

there are 3d, vector and vexel works there. even on the 1st page(vexels and 3d there, look further pages there are some vector works too).
i know what illustrator, photoshop, and 3d max is.

Re: Dodge Viper Vector

oops.
i must have managed to click on all of the 3DS renders.....
Looking back, the difference between what those guys do and what some others do, is that they use the original car image as a basis for modifications.
As I asked in a similar thread in the Graphic Manipulation forum, what difference is there between the original image and the new image. If there is little to none, what is the point?

The point, to some, is that you can resize the vector image to any size you want. Whether for web, print or large scale print like bilboards or banners and it will always look the same. If you take an image off the internet and try resize and print it, it comes out like crap. (plus you can get busted for copyrights) But if you make a really good vector rendering and alter that, then your sizing can be infinite and the image becomes your own. Take some of my work for example. I find images of cars and trace the shapes of the cars as a place to start. Then I change the colors and simplify them for screen printing. It's just a little easier and the result is just as cool as if you were to draw it and then add color and to be honest, you probably couldn't tell the difference.

For others, they just like the way a vector image looks and if you want to change any elements of the artwork, you can do so quickly and easlily.

Re: Dodge Viper Vector

Actually, there have been instances where copying an image in any way (i.e vector drawing of) has been taken as infringement of copyright of not just the image but of the trademarked designs of logos as well.
It's just that these things used to get overlooked by the corporate lawyers.
It only really becomes an issue if you start to make money from them.

There is a grey area when it comes to making a vector drawing of an image that aims to reproduce that image and whether or not it is copyright infringement. A copy of an image is just that, a copy.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing for or against the laws as I have copied images that I do not own for various (non-profit) purposes. Nor am I dismissing the skill in reproducing photos in vector drawings. I'm just not sure where it fits.

Re: Dodge Viper Vector

ok., so a little criticism, and your outta here? so what if someone doesnt like it. You dont do your own work because other people like it do you? you do it because you want to, and wether others like it or not has nothing to do with what you think, so discard the comments in your mind and continue to do it if you find it fun.

Thats why im still here, after almost 3 years of hard criticism.

If you're not creating the pictures with live trace, then how are you doing it? Show us the way Obi Wan! We would like to know. There are a lot of different techniques out there that maybe others could use and/or would like to learn. I'm always open to new stuff. Criticism is a good way to learn, good or bad. Don't take it so hard.
