Talking 98 metro engine swap

Hello,
I have a '97 metro with a 5 speed with a JDM 3 cylinder. Love it runs great, but the body is rusting out. Fast.
I came across a '98 metro automatic with a 4 cylinder. Perfect body. Blown trans.
My question is, will the 97 motor and trans fit? Given that I will have to put in the linkage and computer . Are they compatible?
Thanks,

Re: 98 metro engine swap

I don't know about the later body styles, but I was looking to swap a manual tranmission into an automatic car (both were 94s) during an engine swap. I couldn't do it short of fabricating custom engine mounts because the locations for them were different on the bodies of the two cars. Namely, the driver side mount.

Re: 98 metro engine swap

RE; 98 engine swap .. Sounds like an idea not to give up on just yet ..
Would it be possible .. ya think .. to just swap the 5 speed tranny to the 4cyl engine? These sweet cars are worth a little effort (I think anyway)
I'm considering the same job! Interested to learn your findings .. hope it turns out to be easier than you first thought
(Hey .. we can dream can't we?)

Yeah, hey don't get me wrong! It's an awesome idea. Do some comparing and contrasting at the junk yard or something, take some measurements. It really isnt that hard to fab up some mounts or have them fabbed once you have the data.

Re: 98 metro engine swap

Thanks for the info.
I bought the '98 for $200. Couldn't pass it up.
I can fab things up without too many problems.
The computer is my biggest concern (will the '97 computer connectors fit the '98 connectors). Going from a 4 cylinder("98) to a 3 cylinder('97), then an auto ('98) to a manual ('97).
Thanks,
