coilovers/struts

ok so heres my deal...my cars pretty bouncy..it kinda sucks sometimes i have tsudo coilovers and tokico struts, my friend that doesnt have a 4th gen thinks if i get ground control coilovers that my ride will be as smooth as his....do any of you have ground control coilovers or max speed coilovers(they were recommended from a shop and they were cheap) or can any of you recommend some springs/coilovers?

Thanks guys n' gals!

Well, the best coilovers out there are Skunk2's........ if you got the green, go for it, if not, get some Ground Control ones, they are pretty good, my friend has em in his CRX w/ KYB AGX's..... Well, I preffer springs because my springs have a smoother ride than my friend w/ the Ground Controls..... But its all about prefference.....

What kind of tockico's do you have, the blues? Are they old? Springs don't really have too much of an affect on the way your car rides.. Other than the height.. If your car is bouncy its usually because of your shocks. Mind you, that a better brand of coilovers would be of prime choice.. Don't cheap out on your suspension setup, its important for handling, accelerating and deccelerating...

Your ride is going to be bouncy no matter what, because you have shorter spring and shock setup you therefore have less spring travel, meaning your car is going to going to really feel the bumps and stuff in the road a lot more because it won't absorb them as much.

I dont think thats all true, because 2 of my friends have the same 5th gen hatch, pretty much with kyb gr2's but one has Skunk2 coilovers and the other one has Aerospeed Coilovers, and the one with Aerospeed coilovers bunces like a MOFO and the one with Skunk2's doesnt.... and they are at the same hight.........

Then what do you think a shock does?! IT ABSORBS SHOCK!
If your shocks are bad, they will be bouncier.

It could also have somewhat to do with springrates.. Skunks are often very stiff coil overs..

Shock absorbers are actually dampers...they dampen the force exerted when a spring is compressed and released. It is the springs that act to absorb shock from the road, where as the damper is there to absorb the recoil of the spring.

Ride quality is determined by both the damper and the spring. a stiffer spring will cause a firmer ride quality and need a firmer damper to counter the natural tendancies of the spring to recoil. Without a damper, the spring would tend to naturally oscillate from fully extended to fully compressed.

i have a friend with a miata and he has ground control springs with KYB agx shocks. the ride and handeling are great, untill you take it on the freeway. then you can acutally feel and if your behind him see his tires flex. it dosen't help that he has the cheap pep boys performance tires on it.
if your shocks have more than 30,000 miles on them, then they a probebly shot. if you can afford it get new shocks, unless you can afford a set of coilovers.

my tokicos only have about.......4,000 miles on them...so it has to be my springs right? When i first lowered my car and still had the busted stock shocks on it it was so bouncy and my friend (who also has 4th gen hatch) said well thats what u have to sacrafice for it to look slammed, i thought no way there has to be something i could buy but he says most 4th gen civic's are bouncy just because they are over a decade old.

"bounciness" is generally caused by the damper not being stiff enough to be able to control the oscillations caused by a stiffer spring. If you are finding that your 4g keeps bouncing after you have travelled over a bump, then it will definitely be your shocks that need replacing.
