Engine light on & hesitation on acceleration

Today I was driving home from work when I pressed on the gas to accelerate to RPM went up to 7000 & the car started to buck a little. So I decreased the gas & the car stopped but still never had the pep it normally does. About 5 minutes later the check engine light appeared. Car still hesitates on acceleration & no power. I was wondering if this is enough info to make a guess at the problem. Please advise, thanks.

Re: Engine light on & hesitation on acceleration

Welcome to AF.

Sounds like maybe a misfire happened, which is typical of these cars.

Best way to find out for sure and to get the light turned off is to get it scanned.
Post the code and we'll see what we can do.

Thanks for the reply. I got the light read. The code is po404. It says EGR. The engine whistles when running. The car will run fine thean all of a sudden lose power & almost come to a stop. Still no clue. Have a garage appt on Sat. But all help is appreciated.

Re: Engine light on & hesitation on acceleration

Yeah either the EGR isnt working due to its circuit,
or it can get clogged and cause problems too.

Here is a link with a test procedure.

Re: Engine light on & hesitation on acceleration

Hey I got the car checked it was the catalytic convertor blowing the exhaust back though the egr valve. Had the catalytic convertor fixed the car now works great, but I'm not sure how to reset the engine & I have no owners manual for the car. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Any related codes will be cleared during the normal drive cycles.

Re: Engine light on & hesitation on acceleration

Disconnect the battery for a few hours. That will clear some codes. I'm not sure about the P0404, though. Make sure you have completed 3 full GM drive cycles since the repair. Here is the link: http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_cod...ving-cycle.php
