Re: 98 sunfire gt engine swap

You'll need a high end scan tool thats for sure!
Probly a Tech II to be precise.

IMO the 2.2 ECO is a better motor then the 2.4's.

ALSO macpherson01,
no need to post multiple threads on the same topic!

Re: 98 sunfire gt engine swap

tercel, that won't be a down grade , it's an upgrade in reliability, downgrade in hp.
Even the hp difference can be made up with add on's, the 2.4 was made to keep mechanics employed. Does anyone else know about the 2.6.....what did it come in.....what years will fit......olds, pontiac ....???
I'd really like to tunnel the floor ,fit a transmission well, and install a small block and rear diff in my 98 sunfire G/T. Does anyone have an opinion on this....I know it's doeable, since i recently saw an 84 lazer with a chevy 350 and rwd. I don't know how it drives, and i'd be a little worried about the drive train ripping through the car,but i'd like to try it.

Re: 98 sunfire gt engine swap

xeroinfinity, Why will i need a scan tool; the complete wiring, fuse blocks , ecm, engine and trans will be transplanted into the 98 g/t. even the light plugs will be connected.

Re: 98 sunfire gt engine swap

Well if you are swapping out everything then a Tech II scanner may not be necessary, that's just a lot of work.

It is possible to make any FWD car RWD.
The problems are when you go to register the vehicle it wouldnt pass because its been modified,
and is possibly a safety issue or at least that's what the DMV will try telling you.

Anything is possible to do if you have the time and money. Why not make it AWD!
