Want feedback about a truck

Hey guys, Im new over here on the silverdo forum but just have a quick question. I am thinking about putting the GTP in storage for the winter and buying a silverado to help me get through the snow. I really dont want to spend too much, 2000 or less actually. I just want a good reliable 4x4 truck in decent shape with higher miles. My questions.... I think the 350 is one of the best motors ever. Anyone care to disagree? I want one in my truck. Maybe a TBI 350 in a 1994 or earlier K1500. Good motor or not? How about transmissions? turbo 350 or 4l60e? What rear end ratio would give me the best feul economy as I wont be hardly ever pulling anything. Anyone know of any good trucks that they want to get rid of that may even need some mechanical work done? Thanks a lot for any knowledge you guys can give!!!

Re: Want feedback about a truck

I had a 94 K1500 with 350 and the 700R4 transmission. Great truck! had 3:73 gears. Had 140K miles before trading it in for my 2000 Silverado new, which has 160K now

You can check http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/ and pick the city closest to you.

Re: Want feedback about a truck

thanks. I have been trying craigslist a lot. Seels people are really hard on their vehicles. I cant believe it. I will read a description about how the truck was kept clean and always maintained and when i see a picture, its all dirty and banged up. One even had a beer can sitting on its hood. Unbelievable, they couldnt even take that off before taking a picture. Shows how well the truck was taken care of.

Please dont take this the wrong way.... If you wanna buy a pickup for winter driving... do what you want... But its not like the FWD of a GP GXP is gonna be such a collector vehicle (or impossible to drive in 6 inches of snow). What is your motivation for putting it up in storage at the cost of 2k+... And for 2k your not gonna get much of a vehicle

Re: Want feedback about a truck

It's not even a GXP.
He probably wants to baby it, which is fine.
$2000 for a 4x4 is not going to get you anything decent, IMO. It might last you throught winter if you are lucky.

Re: Want feedback about a truck

No the GTP might not be a collector car, but to each his own. Truthfully guys, My dad has a POS 1986 ford f150 xl. The thing is starting to get really really crappy. We need a truck to haul stuff around, and he found another truck he wants to buy. Its one of those worthless little ford rangers. It has a 4 cylinder in it and a manual tranny.

I am a graduate for auto mechanics, so if anything would go wrong with my car or (soon hopefully) truck, I would be able to fix it myself. Especially if its a 350. I've worked on this motor pretty often and am getting quite used to it.

You guys arent familiar with Minnesota winters are you? Its a matter of slop and slush and when it does snow, it snows for 3 days straight and we get 2 feet. Plus we use salt on our roads which really causes a lot of premature rust problems with out vehicles. My car came from Kansas so there isnt any rust on it and I'd like to keep it that way.

So those are the main reasons I just want to get a truck for the winter.

Yeah, I have found a ton of those. the thing is,Im kind of set in my way. I want a silverado, preferably 1994-1998 body style. I just like the way they look.

Re: Want feedback about a truck

I had a 1993 chevy 1500 350 5 spd, 4wd, awesome looking truck green and silver, cowl induction hood, racerback, fender flares, and mud terrain tires, very reliable truck, never had a problem with it, had about 152000 miles when i sold it and i sold it for $3800, so i would think if your willing to spend a little more than $2000 you might find an ok truck, keep your eyes open, when you find one you want you wont have any problem dishing out a couple extra hundred dollars if you need to.
