94 GP Suspension

Hello all,

I'm new here. I have a 1994 GP SE 2 door coupe. The suspension in the rear is shot and the front could use replacement soon as well. Can anyone tell me what I would need to replace this? Also I was looking at lowering the ride height. Anyone know anything about that for this car? I will take the parts to my mechanic and have him do the work. All replies are greatly appreciated.

Welcome to AF

As far as lowering it, forget it. Your car has a single transverse mounted leaf spring in the rear which cannot be re-arched, and the front has an odd strut cartridge set-up. I don't know of any kits available, and even if they were, they'd be very expensive due to the parts required.

For struts, stick with a quality name brand, and make sure you replace the mounts as well, especially in the rear.

Thanks for the welcome and reply. Ok so lowering is a no go. What are all the parts that I need to do this? Just struts and mounts? Do I need a leaf spring too?

Re: 94 GP Suspension

Hi All!
I'm currently nursing a broken LF coil spring and looked into lowering the front end to compensate for the sagging rear. No one makes a lowering kit for the mid 90's GP, but I think I remember seeing dropped coil springs for a Monte Carlo which has the same odd-ball setup. The springs alone were in the neighborhood of $250. Don't forget that lowering the front end will mess up the front end geometry, too, so camber would need to be reset.
I also tried coil spring binders a long time ago to pull the front down, but with those short springs it didn't take much to bottom out the suspension, so I took them back off after the test drive.
Junkyard won't sell me just springs, but the whole strut assy with hub for $90/ea. I'm afraid I'm stuck with putting in new springs (about $80/pr) which will make the car sit even more ass-heavy, thereby committing me to figuring out what to do with the rear spring. Probably gonna try to replace the friction blocks and mounts. Not sure how difficult it is to change those parts.
