Question mid 80's Delco radio...no display or illum.

Does anyone know what might cause the display and illumination to suddenly stop working? The radio plays and has power to all wires it is suppose to (haynes wiring diragram). I am about to purchase a new stereo, but would really like to keep this one, it just looks original and sounds really good. I have bought two other Delco radios from Ebay trying to keep the original look, but both I bought have problems. Buyer beware, right The radio is for my '86 Z28.

Actually that seems to be a normal thing with Delco Radios, the display goes out and needs replaced. There used to be a electronics shop in my town that specialized in and was factory authorized to fix Delco as well as Ford and Chrysler units too, but sadly they went out of business 2 years ago.

no doubt, 10 years is pretty good for something like a radio
