Low Oil Pressure
I have a 2006 GMC 3500 diesel, I have had the truck to the dealer twice, the hook it up to something and say the oil pressure is OK. It shows 60 when starting, then goes down to appx 30 or below and stays there and I pull a 16K 5th wheel. I find it hard to accept their comments. wonder what they would do if my fuel gage didn't show the correct level, maybe it doesn't!
Any thoughts? |

Re: Low Oil Pressure
Welcome to AF. What brand and weight of oil are you using? What brand of oil filter are you using?

Re: Low Oil Pressure
Couple of things off the top of my head;
What is considered "normal" oil pressure according to GM and what are you basing your suspicion that your pressure is low? Consider the sending unit may be bogus and/or the dash guage is off. If you doubt the dealership, then I would get a good mechanical gauge and "T" it into the oil pressure tap so the dash and mechanical gauges both read pressure....try and set up the mechanical gauge on the hood so you can see it as you drive. Re: Low Oil Pressure
I heard it only takes about 6-7 psi to float the bearings from a GM certified mechanic. However from what you are saying your pressure is normal.
