fuel pump issue

I have determined that the fuel pump on my friend's 1997 blazer is not operating. Has anybody changed one of these? I'm trying to determine whether it will be accessible without removing the gas tank, which would be something I would prefer not to do, since the car is parked on the street in Seattle, and it's pretty wet out. Is there a way to access it through the trunk, as I have done with other vehicles?

You'd have to cut a hole in the floor/bed of the truck.

Unfortunately, The only good way to get it out is to drop the tank.

Welcome to AF.
Make sure it is a bad pump.
Other things besides a bad fuel pump can cause the pump not to work.
Have you done any testing or for 12 volt power getting to the pump?

Much to my relief, it turns out the info I was given was quite incorrect. My friend's dad had looked at her car and told me that it ought to be getting power to the fuel pump, but fortunately I'm the kind of lazy guy who will check inside the fuse box anyhow. Even though the odds are slim, the payoff is big, and I was SOOO relieved when we swapped fuses out, turned the key and heard the fuel pump, and she was too, we weren't able to find any pumps by themselves, only ones with complete assemblies that brought the price up to about four hundred bucks! Thanks for the info guys!

You're lucky it's just the fuse. I'm going on my 3rd one and I'm getting tired of it. After changing it so many times, I was determined not to buy the whole module and was able to find the pump only. My friend is saying there probably is a short or something that's causing it it burn the pump out so frequently (less than a year). Maybe someone here can help me.

Best to start a new post on your problem.

Many other things besides fuel pump can cause a fuel pump to burn up or cause fuel pressure problems.
Always check wiring and voltage and grounds and fuel pressure before and after replacing a fuel pump.

If a fuel pump needs replaced always go the new AC delco/Derlphi fuel pump module.

To many aftermarket crap fuel pumps out there.

Carquest has dropped Airtex fuel pumps like a hot spud.
And other parts places are having a high comeback rate on all off brand pumps.
The last airtex pump I replaced on a ford pickup I had to put 4 pumps in it before it left the shop.
3 in a row out of a batch from one parts place and another one from a different batch from carquest.
And the 4th one was still not up to par on pressure test.
I just got tired of replacing them.
