87 305 camaro engine swap.

i recently got a 305 camaro,an of course i want to swap to a 350.i,m thinking of purchasing a 350 rebuilt long block from somewhere affordable, and removing the stock cam an replacing it with something more exotic.........any suggestion?.....i,m just looking for something with lopy idle with out an reserve tanks, good rpm range.also with intake, carb? i,m working on a budget.also maybe headers that will fit in the 87 body style.will the 305 distributor work in the 350? or should i find another one? that will plug staight into my existing wiring harness.please help with any AFFORDABLE suggestions.i,m not looking to turn this into a drag car, just something for some weekend fun.thanks

also to help with suggestions.....currently the vehicle has 150k miles. 5spd manual. 4brll quadrajet.not sure about rear ratio ,i know its not limited slip.has a computor control carb ,02 sensor, mixture control carb.t-tops,good body no rust.even the current 305 has no oil leaks.run great like it stands.single exhaust that come down 2/half y-pipe,converter to flowmaster daul outlet muffler.need suggestions with better sounding exhaust also with the 350.
