3rd time was a charm.

Yes, I know a WRX should have no trouble with a non-hemi Jeep. One year ago, just after I bought my WRX, I met up with a mid-90's V-8 Grand Cherokee at my favorite stoplight close to home. It's a two-into-one merge, about 200 yards or so.

Anyway, I could tell he was power braking and was looking to take the lane. I revved it a little, and when the light turned I dropped the clutch and promptly killed the motor.

A few months later, I saw the Jeep again at the light. I had practiced a few lanches this time. The light turned green, but my rpm's weren't really up past 2000. My car went, but I didn't start to pull on him until near the merge, so I dropped back and took my medicine again.

Last week I happened to pull up next to my old buddy again. Can't say he couldn't do a consistent launch with what he had. But this time, on mostly dry pavement, I grabbed a perfect launch from close to 5000 rpm. By the time I hit 2nd, he was still crossing the intersection.

A few miles later, nearer to home, I saw a pair of headlights come up behind me and tailgate. After riding my ass, the vehicle passed me coming up on a tight curve. It was that damned Jeep! Although I could have stayed with him and caught him on a long straightaway around the corner, the cops have been writing tickets around here lately. No point in doing 80 in a 35 if there might be a speed trap.

Well, anyway, not much of a kill, but it certainly shows that improved driving matters.

Nice man. I forgot do you have a regular WRX or the STI?

It's a stock 2006 WRX, although it will go to stage 2 soon.

ha, you should have run him down. turns are your friend. he would have had to slow down to avoid rolling his car. you could have stuck to the pavement and slipped around him. It's the only way used to be able to beat my friend's mustang- he had to slow down around curves or he'd spin the car. Too bad my balt got totalled ...stupid stick in the road.

Nice kill. I didn't realize it takes that much effort to launch a wrx. I want to get one but the wife can't drive stick. I thought the wrx would be easy for her to learn on since all 4 wheels are moving. Then again I don't have to let her drive it... haha

Re: 3rd time was a charm.

Don't be hard on yourself. They did put a 360 V8 those which was good for a 6.1 second run to 60. Even the 318 V8's weren't slow. I beat a Civic hatch in one while hauling a double axle U-Haul trailer.

Good work!
