96 contour turn signal problem

My niece has a 96 contour that has a turn signal solenoid that keeps ticking even though the turn signal is not engaged. Tried replacing the solenoid, but the new one ticked non-stop also. I was thinking it might be the turn signal unit itself. Would like to hear from someone who has had this problem and fixed it; or someone who knows the right fix.

Thanks,

Jeff

Re: 96 contour turn signal problem

Wow! This is sooo wierd. My wife's car just started the same thing. I fist changed the flasher, but that was not the problem. Now I have to try and replace the TS switch. But I'm not sure what it takes to do so.

Re: 96 contour turn signal problem

OK, just got it fixed. It was the Turn Signal Switch. It was very easy to replace. Remove the upper and lower cover from the colume. On top about an inch or two away from the Hazard button will be a black clip. (Lefthand side)
Unclip and pull up. Dont forget to unplug the 2 wire connectors from the back. There a hook type. Thats it. Its out. You can get a replacement from Kragan Auto for about 125.00.
A lot better than going to a dealer.
They told my wife that the stearing wheel would have to be pulled and the air bag too. And then they wanted 280.00 for the TS switch.

I did not get a replacement. I took the switch apart and filed the contact points back into a nipple. The whole problem was through the years the contact points ware flat and then bridge over the 2 circuts making a short.
Careful if ya try this. There is a few spring loaded parts in there.

Hope this helps anyone out.
