The Debut...

Hi all, this will be my first post even though I've been reading stories on this forum for a couple months. First off a little about myself... I'm 21 and going for a double diploma in Bio and Psych and hopefully eventually going to med school. I drive a black 2000 civic si with the mods listed below. I know that my car is quite slow compared to the other power houses in this forum but I really love my car, it's extremely fun to drive and it's great on gas. Now on to the races.

First race was on the highway coming back home from school and behind me is a maroonish colored Honda Accord lx (95-96ish). He proceeds to cut me off and revs at me with his huge ass fart can that sounds absolutely awful. I switch lanes so I line up with him going around 70 mph, he looks over and gives me a dirty look. I drive calmly for another couple of minutes when he cuts me off again forcing me to slam on the brakes. I have to follow behind him for a couple seconds because of a big truck on the right side. Once out of the trucks way I swing over to the right lane and pace him again. He gives me another dirty look and I know he's gonna try to cut me off again. I downshift to 3rd gear and bring it up to about 7600 rpms (vtec screamin the whole way) and shift up to 4th and bring it up to redline. I look back in the mirror and he's about 2-3 cars behind me. He does his stupid ricer fly by and this time looks straight ahead.

Second race is on the highway also on the way back home from the gym. This time I see HID's from the rear view mirror and slow down to see what car it is. It turns out to be a Corolla type S. He paces me and we both hold it at about 65 mph. He hits it and I quickly downshift to 3rd and bring it up to redline. I proceed to redline 4th and shut down around 95 mph with him about 3 1/2-4 cars back. He does his ricer fly by and I continue to drive home with a

Overall I think I did fairly well, I've been driving stick for about 1 1/2 years and I'm still tryin to improve with my shifting. I can't wait until I get enough money to mod my car, I heard b16's have good potential, any suggestions?

Still relatively new to the forum posting so pardon my avatarlessness haha.

Re: The Debut...

Nice kill tally so far. The rice-accord made me laugh, i know i kid around my area with one.
I didn't see the list of mods you promised- but yes, a B16swap will get your car up and moving. It's going to be expensive though.
I'd like to see your car move from rest. When you're already up and running, you Civic guys get your VTecs full potential. But when you're at a redlight... it's a litle bit different race.

Re: The Debut...

ahh the 99-00 Si's. I remember back in Highschool, all the asians was sweating the car ( i'm asian too by the way ). In NYC Hondas was very very big in the 90's. I was the only nissan fan out there and looked at me like i'm some kind of weirdo.

Its amazing what was once considered to be very quick only has 160hp. Now even if i say have a 300-400hp it doesn't even make people yawn anymore.

I would definitely say that those were fun cars since you can drive the piss out of them and not really have the fear of you dying. When you start driving 400 hp-600hp cars you start seeing things very very differently. Its like when you start to speed, you get very very scared because alot of things can go wrong and you'll kill either yourself or someone else.

I think my 300hp nsx is almost perfect, I would say another 30-40hp would be ideal. I would say just try to make your civic up to 300hp and it would be perfect. I would rather drive a slow car fast than a very very fast car slow.

Ya know...I was talking to a friend about this at a party last night. We had watched a video earlier of a Supra dynoing at 650rwhp. All of the sudden, I realized, with Supra's thats not all that special. And my buddy agreed and said, ya know, with the technology we have know, five and six hundred in anything isn't all that amazing anymore.

very true,, but like you basically said it really depends on the car. there's some cars putting those kinds of #'s down bone stock now, but if I saw a 650whp lotus elise or civic then that's a whole 'nother ball game. but yeah, i don't think you could put 160hp in any vehicle and impress anyone nowadays, unless maybe it's bike.

Re: The Debut...

Hahah in any case I think everybody would like a fast car. But in my case my Si is what I've got to work with right now and worrying about being able to pay for medical school lingering in my mind, I don't really have a choice. I'm just enjoying what I have and even though I can't slaughter anybody on the streets I still have fun... I'm sure anyone can appreciate that. I envy all you other guys' cars tho, they seem like real monsters and hopefully one day I'll get a monster too, until then I can only dream of keeping up :P

Re: The Debut...

Mine will be "stuck" at 300 rwhp and 330ish in rwtq for quite a while as I'm addressing the supporting mods for the 997 GT2-humbling monster it's to become.

Agreed with the '650 isn't special for Supras' statement. I was after one since the beginning of this year (reason why I sold my other 951, and haven't posted on here for some time)...but then realized, with the power/weight distribution of a 600 rwhp 951...I'll be knocking out 800-ish rwhp Supras.

Of course I'll have the same displacement as them (only I'll be down 2 cylinders)...but, I kinda like being the underdog :-)
And that's what this car's intention will be. Not be okay with killing other boosted 4-cylinder cars...but going after modded MKIV's, Z06's, 996/997 TT's,etc.

And hopefully get to beat on a few sub-1 liter bikes.

Re: The Debut...

damn! do you guys drive these cars as daily drivers? If you're sitting on 500-650hp in a car that came with maybe 200, you're sitting on a handgrenade.
If you press the gas too hard, hit the clutch wrong and you don't know what you're doing- you're going to your grave.
I can see a 650hp track machine, but trying to navigate a city in rushhour would be asking for trouble i'd think.

My goal was to get my Cobalt to 250whp and then supercharge it.
The Civic should be Supered. It really doesn't have much difference, except that the Super is going to give better exhaust flow and lower RPM application. Remember, he starts to get his VTech in the higher ranges, so he needs some way to get there fast. Besides, in typical street races it's acceleration that wins the day; not topspeed.
