Found a goodie ? Let me know.

OK first off , sorry to Crow and Thor the other thread went out of control..was just voicing my opinion and looking for feedback on other peoples opinions from what I described..anywho moving on.

I found a 1997 GS-T at a local dealership..the skinny -
121,000 - 5 speed - the works of a stock GS-T. White exterior with black interior. The guy wants $4,500 for it and from what I can tell from the test drive it's the bomb =) I am going to be needing another car for winter as my RS-T is begining it's build next month.

So...Everything is stock , he says it had a new paint job recently to restore the factory white , has a new carpet , new hatch seal , everything in the car works fantastic , new falken z rated tires , no curb rash to the rims , however -> we had a storm a while back..a bad one in fact and the car was sitting in kind of a pit where a excessive amount of water gathered and flooded the car. Someone popped the driver door lock and jacked the stock stereo :/ weird but whatever...

Will the car being flooded have a negative toll on the vehicles basic functions and over all performance ? one or the other or both ? :/ i've never had a flooded car before so outta my league..I did drive the car tonight and everything seemed to work ok but the carpets were still soaked like real bad as in put your fingers on the carpet and it puddles up.. and he says it has a salvage title but the car is straight as an arrow and drives like one to boot. I inspected it underneath and in the engine bay , suspension and all that junk for about 30 minutes looking for the reason it was salvaged and found nothing so...who knows :/

Let me know what you think if the price is fair or not..the 4,500 includes license , taxes and registration/emission fees.

Re: Found a goodie ? Let me know.

A 97 GST with a salvage title and then being flooded? I wouldn't pay more than 3k. Some flood cars will not have a single problem, and some have more problems than you can imagine, it's just the luck of the draw.

If you could talk him down to 4-3.7k, it might be worth looking more into it, and see if you can run a carfax and see exactly what happened at the accident, usually it gives a mini-report of where the damage on the car was to give you a better idea of where to look.

Re: Found a goodie ? Let me know.

Price seems a bit high for being a salvage flood and having that high of mileage. Do you have any records for the car or do the Carfax? You want to try and find out how well it was taken care of before the flood and if the timing belt and other maintenance had been done, becaue if not that could cost you $1k+ to do it all.

If you do get it, there is a high chance of mold in the carpets, seats, dash, etc. I would rip everything apart and clean it as good as I could and hope for the best. I've also heard that flood cars rust quicker.

Re: Found a goodie ? Let me know.

when i bought my gst, 2 years ago, totaly stock everything working perfectly fine. i paid 4,500 and it had 106XXX miles. so this one being flooded i'd say arround 3k maybe.

Re: Found a goodie ? Let me know.

Well from what you guys say it's not looking good for price and damages / situation so I will talk to my bank , have them run a carfax report on it then see what they will cut me a check for since I don't get paid for another 2 weeks...guh my RS is killing me...but if I can talk the guy down at least to 3,500 then I will jump on it but nothing over 3,700 I think..

As far as the motor and transmission everything seems clean as a whistle and runs smooth. turbo spools decently , transmission shifts nice and tight but the clutch pedal is extremely stiff and the bottom of the motor barely has road grime. there is some what looks to be burning on the head through like there is an exhaust leak at the manifold which could be expected I suppose for a car this old and that many miles..

I'll snag some pics if I can talk the guy down and drive it home oh..I almost forgot - the antenna doesn't go up and the right side door trim piece is gone O.o but doesn't take any effect on the vehicle over all except for cosmetics..thats all thats wrong with it I promise lol......watch I'll be driving it home and crank walk :/

Re: Found a goodie ? Let me know.

I bought my 95 GS-T with 90k miles for exactly 4k. So take that for what you will, but a slavaged GS-T for 4.5k seems pretty steep for me.

It could possibly be a good deal if you can get it down to 3k.

What are your mod plans for a car initially if any?

Re: Found a goodie ? Let me know.

Ok well first the good news ..the bank agreed to pay them and hit me with credit on it XD the bad news with the flood report and salvage title they will only do up to a NADA value and that is 3,195.00...about 1,300 short...but it gets better the guy agreed to 3,500 out the door registered , emissioned and all that. so I just have to wait until payday to go pay the 305 cash....like I said my RS is killing me XD drained the account AGAIN...

As far as mods on the GS-T nothing really..I am building up my RS-T to eat up GS-T's all day long =D I may throw on some strut braces , a FMIC , a BOV , and a Optima red top battery but thats about all :/ maybe a mp3 player or something probably just do some minor modding and once my Rs-T is done , sell it off or something ? who knows.

I would atleast do the basics like intake, exhaust, boost controller, boost guage and BOV. I bet once you get that done you'll want to do more

Got something against the 420A ? If you must know..I am doin it for a few reasons such as bragging rights , rarity , when I got my rs my buddy in his GS clowned on me and another guy at SLS performance here in salt lake has a black GSX pushing 300 whp and clowned me as well for buying a RS so whatever anyways..

I like the plain look of the RS with just a basic spoiler and a talon front bumper..good enough for me. I also like the RS as it's the lightest of them all. lets see...what else..OH the biggy I guess -> when someone else who is into eclipses pulls up next to me and revs on me thinking they are 'better' than me , it will be nice to put them in their place..just becasue its a basic low end model doesn't mean the engine and drivetrain are as well..people like that piss me off. I suppose another would be no fear of crank walk ?

It needs a Tune up alright..a few other things here and there but nothing major and nothing over a hundred bucks wont take care of. My only concern is moist electrical connectors and arking and the ecu circuit board possibly being wet and frying :/ hope for the best I suppose....

I hate rain and I hate driving in it even more :/ whats worse is when you see people with mustangs and gto's and supras driving like assholes in the rain..easy to lose control of RWD..

I didnt want to be forced into rushing my RS-T build but now time is a major concern for me due to personal things in my life..I really wanted to take it slow , do it perfect and spot clean every square inch of everything but..now I don't have the time and am going to have to take a few short cuts here and there but the good news is , I know someone who decided to get the car...not so much 'know him' as meet him and we kicked it off as car buddies :/ had him over -

+ flavor

yes my camera sucks for dark..lol.
