Re: hi. problem with 96 s10
what does your temperature gauge read when this happens ? Your problem may be related to a faulty radiator cap, which isn't keeping enough pressure on the cooling system to raise the boiling point.

Re: hi. problem with 96 s10
How hi does your guage get? It is normal for it to warm up a little, but not too much. The engine has load on it when the compressor is working, plus the transfer of heat from the condensor warms things up a little.
This does put more load on the cooling system, so if your cooling system is not working effeciently then you could have problems. As mentioned by emit1134, it could be something as simple as a bad rad cap. It could be a cooling fan clutch which isn't working properly. When was the last time you had the cooling system flushed? |

Re: hi. problem with 96 s10
Could be any one or more of several things: faulty fan clutch, faulty radiator cap, restricted tubes in the radiator, insufficient air flow through the radiator, faulty thermostat, serpentine belt slipping, or a faulty water pump. Bottom line is insufficient cooling, and any one of these things can cause it.

Re: hi. problem with 96 s10
start by replacing the thermo and the radiator cap. under $15 even if you splurge on the good stuff. If that doesn't fix it, get a pressure check done on the cooling system.
