95 Broken door handle

My passenger door will not open from outside, it feels like something is broken because there is no resistance to the handle. I searched the forum and I think the problem is a broken rivet.
I need help in getting the door panel off - there are a few screws on the inside arm rest but how do I get the whole panel off? Feels like there are clips holding it but how do I unfasten them?
Thanks.

PS. Found this post that addresses my problem.

Re: 95 Broken door handle

Got the panel loose so far, but I am unable to get the window handle off. Tried prying it but it will not budge. Also looked for a clip but saw none.
The window handle works, I can turn it to get the window up or down, I just cannot get it off.
Any suggestions on getting this window handle off will be appreciated.

Re: 95 Broken door handle

Bought a window handle removal tool and got the handle and panel off.
The push rod connecting the outside handle to the lock mechanism broke off at the bottom where it attaches to the lock mechanism.
The top of the push rod is flared out to prevent it from comming off the door handle - how can I get it off to replace it?
Thanks.

Re: 95 Broken door handle

I had the same problem with my 93 driver side door. I was lucky and had power windows so the door panel was easier to take off than yours.

The rod on my would go up to high and drop out of the housing. I went to the hardware store and bought a bunch of washers to slide on the rod.

I then took a bunch of silicone and slathered the entire area with it. Once set in place this kept the rod from pulling out of the housing. I thought this was just going to be a tempory fix, but it's been 5 months and the silicone is holding.

Hope this helps for your issue.

G.

Thanks ....
Mine is broken off where it turns at a right angle so your fix won't work.
If I can't get a new piece I can weld a piece of metal rod on to it - but I need help getting the rod off the door handle.

My 94 had the same problem. The plunger rod kept jumping out of the latch when the handle is let go. In addition the latch hole had worn considerably so the plunger could easily slip out. The plunger, if I remember, was held to the handle with a sliding clip. Had to slide that up then lift the plunger out. The plunger has a 90 degree bend where it attached to the handle and the clip slid over that joint. There was no way to remove the handle so I had to work it from the access hole on the inside of the door using a curly pick. Welded some extra length to the bottom of the plunger as well as a large washer to better distribute the wear on the latch. All has been working fine for 18 months except now the electric lock is not completely releasing so of course we must manually unlock that door to get the handles to work at all.
