Had My Car Scanned.. And

I Took my car to get it scanned regarding all the service engine soon poppin up and my car starting to tremble..

well the reader didnt read my PCM.. and the tech told me that once the service engine light comes on.. it stays on even if the battery cable is disconnected..cause my SES stays on and it comes off... he used two machines to try and read it and it didnt connect.. and i took my car in to get it scanned a year ago at the same place with the same machine.. so it has read my PCM with no problem....

the tech told me it is most likely my PCM has gone bad.. because it cannot be read and it acting up..

anyone know if this could be right???..

anyone know if the PCM is expensive??..

You could very well have a PCM failure; however, even if you do replace the PCM, the new one could fail if you do not correct the original problem. All relays and solenoids need to be verified for proper operation, prior to replacing the PCM!

Re: Had My Car Scanned.. And

I just replaced the PCM on a 94 LeSabre last week. I looked at the JY and eBay (JY) and the used ones (with a 30-day warranty) were 50-65 bucks plus shipping. I then found a rebuilt unit in stock, at my local O'Reilly Auto Parts for 99 bucks and it included a lifetime warranty. That decision was a no brainier!

The ECM for my 94 is ECM #16183247 . The computer is used on a lot of GM vehicles, but they would have different proms in them. The prom is easy to replace, it just plugs in under the cover(4 screws) I purchased an ECM 16183247 that was for a Pontiac for $60 on ebay. I took the prom from my bad computer and put it in and everything worked fine.

Re: Had My Car Scanned.. And

It is inside the car to the right of the glove compartment. It's easy to get at, you have to unscrew the black plastic cover that is under the dash on that side. I think i had to remove the glove compartment door, and a couple of light and an airbag connector to get it out. It's about 8"x8"x2" and has 3 connectors color coded red, white and blue. make sure it's bad before you replace it as it's expensive.
Good Luck
Good luck.
