1997 Cavalier ETC light

I have a 1997 Cav Z24. We took it to Sears to get the front tire patched. When we got it back that night, the Check Engine light was one and the ETC Off light was on. The thing now shifts with a jolt. What is ETC? Could it have something to do with the shifting? How do I turn it back on?

Thanks for any help you can offer!!!

Re: 1997 Cavalier ETC light

Electronic Traction Control

It will usually turn off (meaning the light comes on) any time the check engine light is on. There should also be a switch to turn it off manually. It also turns off if the gear shifter is in first or second gear.

Get the code checked and fix that problem, the ETC is probably off because of the check engine light.

How can you manually disable ETS....I hate it, it sucks ass, I can't find a fuse or anything to pull to turn it off, I drive with my e brake up a notch and that works but my back brakes sqeak a bit from doing that.....anyone got an idea?

Re: 1997 Cavalier ETC light

well i'm no expert but two things: the etc light will come on when the ABS light comes on, not engine light (at least i've never seen that). the little switch on your shift handle is the only way to de-activate the etc. as to the first post i would allmost call sears and ask for the manager (if you really think they screwed it up)
