Cool Practice!!!

Try to find a Gundam Marker; a fine tipped marker for those Mechs also used for panel line detailing on model cars. They can be found at www.hlj.com

Or you can thin down black paint and put little blobs along the panel lines and the paint fills the lines itself. The little blobs left on the body can be polished out.

Although all this is in the FAQ...:o

Another method for panel lines is to use artist's acrylic gouache paint. This stuff is available in some form or another at all artist supply shops.

Just paint a generous amount in the panel line, then wipe over with a tissue, cotton bud or whatever is handy. The paint will remain in the engraved detail and be removed from the surface.

As the paint is water based, if you screw up it is easy to remove and try again. And unlike markers you can mix whatever colour you like, i.e. a light grey line where full black might appear too stark.

I think as a general rule it is best to keep it subtle.

P.S. Hello everybody this is my first post on this forum - hope it goes to plan

Phil

Welcome.

Is the paint thick? because with it being water based, couldn't you just thin it down a bit?

Thanks Thug,

Yeah, straight from the tube the gouache is pretty thick, so it is very easy to brush into the panel lines. It can be watered down to thin consistency for washes in wheels etc.

Also makes good wet looking mud!

Yeah Thug, the muddy Corolla is one of mine,

There are more pictures of my models on my web page, it's URL is in my profile.

Hasn't been updated in a log time unfortunately. Although someone must still be visiting it since I recieved an email saying Topcities had closed it down due to excessive bandwidth the other day !!! Seems to be working for now though.
