1995 Sonoma Dies!!! Ignition Switch?
I have a 1995 GMC Sonoma, 2.2liter, manual trnasmission, 2WD, extended cab. A few days ago, I was driving down the road and it just shut off. I "bump" started it and it seemed fine. Two days ago, it shut off again. This time bump starting did not work and I had to pull of to the side of the road. I tried starting it and it would turn over, but not start. As I turned the key to the on position, only my seatbelt warning light came on. I continued to try to start it and then all of my dash warning lights came on. Once they all came on, the truck started and ran without issue. I have had the same problem a couple of more times in the past couple of days. Same issue - if the lights come on, it will start, if they do not come on there is no chance it will start. I know it is somewhere in the ignition system (at least my first guess) but would like confirmation from others prior to buying and replacing parts. No scan codes are present, it comes back all clear. Thanks!!

Re: 1995 Sonoma Dies!!! Ignition Switch?
When this happens you must check current into and out of the ign sw harness, only you can determine this problem with on site diagnosis, we'd be guessing at best.

Re: 1995 Sonoma Dies!!! Ignition Switch?
So, if you were guessing, would you guess ignition switch? It has a distributorless ignition system, so the only components seem to be the coil packs, ICM, PCM and the ignition switch. I know it could be a loose wire or bad ground to any of the above, but it just seem more likely to me that since the thing works from time to time, it would most likely be in the switch. Do you agree? (best guess, of course)

Maybe, but further checks as I outlined may eliminate unecessary parts replacement.
