Seat belts

Both front seatbelts dont lock, i know some cars if you tug on the belt hard they will lock, and some only lock when in an accident or braking. are mine supposed to lock when they are tugged on or when the brake is pressed or in a collision? i would think its not the last two, my car doesnt seem to be that advanced.

idk but mine never lock either.

however, i can get them to lock loose by doing a sort of double pull.
mine seem to work like window shades.
pull out and snap and it stays in its position.
pull again and it retracts

yeah if i pull mine out or lean forward with it on it will stay out, then i have to give it a little tug to retract, but it still never locks. i dont recall if anyone on here knows much about seatbelts either

These cars are equipped with inertial type belt retractors. They will not lock unless there's rapid deceleration (or high-G cornering).

They should lock like Silicon said. If you really want to make sure they do, make a fash, sharp, hard turn enough to even squeal the tires a bit and the belt should lockup. If you're really nuts, go rearend someone and see if they lock. <- Kidding.

my car is probably equipped with the "weighted pendulum" style belts then im geussing...

My car seems to do the same thing but only on rare occations for some reason. If the seat belt is loose when i unbuckle and doesnt retract, it will retract if i open the door. Is this suppose to happen cuz i dont get the point of that. Why wouldn't it just retract in the first place? I dont know if this has anything to do with it but it just brought that question to mind.

mine get stuck too when the door is closed and you pull them out sometimes, when you open the door there is a little black buttion that is released and thats why they wind up easier. also i checked to see if the belt locks at a sudden stop and they do, you have to jam on the brake hard. theres a little weight inside the mechanism that swings forward in a sudden stop to lock the belts.

Another question, how safe are the backseat belts being as how they only go over your lap unlike the front ones???
