2g 5spd gst and 2g auto gst

hey guys, i've been a little busy with the new member of the family and work so i cant post on here that often anymore, but i need some help right now.

Here is few details on what happend to my gst and what i plan on doing.
Last month i went to the track and made a few passes, i managed to get e best of 14.3 and about 3 runs i did 14.4, then at the end of the day my tranny broke.
I dont know exactly what happened because i havent pulled the tranny yet, but there's a whole in the casing, kinda by the starter. The car drives fine and i made home from the track with the messed up tranny(80 miles at about 65mph)

i've been looking all over ebay and cant find FWD trannies, so i started looking at race built tranny, but i dont see that happening in the near future.

Then today i started looking on craigslist for a tranny and i found a 95 gst(same a mine) really nice body and only one small dent on the pasenger side, but he said it needs new engine.
So what i was think is try to talk him to lower the price a little, and use the engine on gst, since the tranny is messed up, but i'm not sure if the 5spd engines and auto engines are exactly the same, i know this might sound stupid but do you guys think this will work? a 95 gst 5spd engine on a 95gst auto? i tried to search but didnt find anything useful.

Sounds like you got the usual. Knocked a tooth off a gear which got lodged in between the front diff and the case, then promptly got punted out into the free world. Driving 80 miles on it most likely renders the whole tranny useless even as a core, which sucks. Always get towed back after drivetrain breakage, more damage is usually done when people try to drive it than the original failure caused. And any DSMer that doesn't have AAA Plus is out of his or her mind IMO.

ok i was just a little confused, because i remember doing an auto tranny before but cant remember how the tranny get the power from the engine, so should i just remove the flywheel and drop it?

You cant remove the flywheel untill you drop the tranny. You should be able to unbolt the torque converter from the flex plate and drop the tranny. You may not have to do that though.

yeah i know, but i said it wrong. i meant to say do i remove the flywheel, i know the auto tranny has torque converter but i cant remember how it attaches to the crank.

ohhh yeah, i think i got it figured out then, put the torque where the presure plate was suppossed to be, right?

i better look into this then, i had the roadside assistence from stupid insurance company, and they said they could only tow me to the closest repair shop, thjis was with american family thats why now i have state farm.

AAA plus is 100 miles free, then 3 bucks per mile. I'm 112 miles from the track so my whole tow only comes out to 36 bucks. Only downside is you have to have AAA regular for one year before they let you get Plus. Worth it though, either way. Get started now, so you can get Plus asap.

Manuals have a flywheel (energy storage device) and clutch. Autos have a flexplate (just locates the TC and attaches to the crank) and torque converter. There sould also be a spacer in the crank from the auto that has to get removed to put a flywheel on it, IIRC.

yeah i'm gonna have to get AAA, i actually have it but on the blazer the wife drives which never breaks...... except that one day,lol. And it's been almost a year but it was a free membership so i'll contact them see if i can renew and be plus.
