front signals not working - 98 Century
Hey guys,
I have a 98 Century and a few months ago I started having a problem with my right signal. When I would signal it was clicking at double speed, and the front bulb would not flash. However, if I would push the lever arm harder, it would work again. Eventually, that stopped working. I have replaced both the bulb and the socket. Then the same thing happened with the left signal. Anyway, I now can not show incoming traffic where I am going. Both of the bulbs still work. Oh ya, the light in the dash does not come on unless it is working correctly. From what I have read in the other threads that probably rules out the flasher, and leaves me with either the multifunction switch or the wiring (but since the bulb works I'm guessing it's not the wiring). If anybody can help, and let me know how to get to the parts, that would be great. Thanks! |

Re: front signals not working - 98 Century
Welcome to AF.
The MFS is a common problem and based on your symptoms I would replace the MFS. This part is expensive at the GM dealer so you may want to consider a pull from a salvage yard or get one of the aftermarket ones available. You can do the work DIY in about 1 hour without having to pull the steering wheel or the airbag module. Let me know if you need a tech procedure.

Re: front signals not working - 98 Century
See link below.
Click here This is for a Regal with floor shifter and not column mount shifter if you have that configuration but it should be similar or give you an idea of how to do it. One part at the beginning is omitted which is removing the tilt steering lever. There is a metal retainer to the right hand side of the lever you can use a small flat blade screwdriver on and it will pop off. Here is the MFS I replaced. Got a pull at a salvage yard for $60. ![]()
