Exhaust? Whats the diff between catback

Hi,
I'm planning on getting rid of my stock muffler tip/exhaust. I was wondering what's the difference between buying just the exhaust i.e. skunk2 universal exhaust, compared to the whole catback system?
On average how much does it cost to weld the exhaust on?
And which one will make themost roar?

A catback system replaces all the piping all the way from the cat to the end of the exhaust, muffler included. I think what you are talking about is just getting a new muffler welded on. I would go with the whole catback system for a couple reasons. One, if you decide to sell the car you will probably be able to sell it easier and/or get more money for it if it is stock so you can just put the old exhaust on. The second reason is I am not really a fan of doing mods to your car without any real point beyond making it look or sound fast. Also you can bolt on a catback system yourself in no time.

If you want your car to be loud then go with a smaller muffler. The smaller the muffler the louder it will be. But be warned, having a loud car can get annoying. My friend has a civic with an aftermarket exhaust and a test pipe instead of a cat and we took it on a 3 hour trip. When we got home we put the cat back on.

Remember there is a huge difference between making your car sound good and making your car loud.

Well thanks a lot for the insight, when u meant bolt on, is like making new holes on my car and then bolting it, or do cat back systems specific for the car not require that? Do you have any suggestions on small mufflers? thanks

With a catback system you unbolt the stock one and it bolts straight up to where the stock one came off. Any aftermarket exhaust is going to sound a little louder than stock, I dont know any brands or anything for mufflers.

i was wondering if it is easy to install body kits by doing it by yourself?
If not, whats the avg cost to install a full body kit?

Exhausts - Apexi, Invidia, HKS. A good catback will run $400+ and yield almost no results. Easy to do yourself if you have knowledge of cars and the tools. A muffler shop can bolt it up for no more than $50 bucks.


Bodykits are easy to install depending on what kind of kit. Some just require bolting a new lip on or removing your front bumper. Others require you to GLUE and bolt up side skits and rear bumpers. It shouldn't cost more than $150 bucks to have a shop do it. Keep in mind you also need to get the whole kit painted which is costly. I would recommend getting a professional to do it if you don't have much knowledge with cars.
