Shifting issues

I recently recked my rear end into a telephone pole and pushed the whole end in. I am not too concerned with the body damage, but now my car will not shift. If i start in drive, 3 or 2 the car will not shift. Reverse works fine and if i start in low gear, i can shift up. Also my check engine light came on for a period. Today i put some tranny fluid in an the check engine light came off. Anyone have any idea why i cannot shift while in those 3 gears, but starting in low gear will.

Check the linkage and verify that the cable brackets are secure.
