Question car won't start,...then try a few hours later...runs beautifully..????

so i get into my pt cruiser 02(manual), and it always started right up but about 2 months ago it didn't and then i tryed again after a few hours and still nothing, waiting the next morning, started right up....no problems since that....then yesterday i was going to leave and it wouldn't start up, if anything was gonna happen it sounded like i was gonna kill the battery by cranking the key.....then then put a little gas in it....after about 5 trys, it started up......then the next day i had over half a tank...and it wouldn't start up....so then i went to work with something else and came back in the morning and it still wouldn't start up....came back about 9 hours later, started right up, and then this morning, i had to try it about 3 times before it started. does anyone know the problem?
fuel pump turns on everytime....and when it's running, it run's fine/well....out of the 9 months of having this car, it only did this once a few months back but the past few days has been doing it over and over.

The fuel pump has a diaphram, sometimes, a small hole is affected by ambient temperature, and expands and contracts, which in cooler temps has a tendency to shrink, warmer temps expand. It fits what your saying. My guess is that the diaphram has a small hole in it, even tho the pump motor works, the hole in the diaphram makes starting a chancey thing. A pressure test of the pump should prove this theory right or wrong. Its an inexpensive fix either way. Not sure if you can rebuild the fuel pump, or if its cheaper to just replace it. Good luck.

where is the fuel pump located? connected to the tank? inside the tank? is it a pain to get to?

The fuel pump is an electric motor mounting inside the fuel tank at the rear of the car.

turns out fuel pump was fine, but the computer scanner said the crank sensor had a problem....bought a new crank sensor for about 55-60 bucks, had friend put it in...no problems since so far.
