Cranking, no start issue.
I have a 69 Corvair and I recently changed the cap, rotor, and condenser along with a new set of plug wires and now the vehicle won't start though it cranks. I checked for spark and it's fine on all cyclinders. Checked the routing of plug wires and they're correct. Checked for fuel and it's getting sufficient fuel.
So I'm stummped on this, the vehicle started fine before this, (well almost fine, idled a little rought and stalled when put into drive). Any ideas on what else I should check for? |

Re: Cranking, no start issue.
go back step by step,be sure all parts are correct!
did you happen to save the old parts? if so replace one by one and see where that leads.does it have points ? if it work before it should work again. did you move the dist. to put the cap on? check your timming.

Re: Cranking, no start issue.
Check the points to make sure it is not too wide.Old rule of thumb was to use a macthbook cover for intitial setting and adjust while running. Be sure your wires are run to the correct firing order. I hope you replaced them one at a time. Did you check the firing order on the distributor to see if it was going the correct direction (I own a corvair and cant remeber if the rotation is clockwise or counter, some help I am!) also check the wire between the distributor and the coil, I have seen them short out on the engine cover and not start. Hope this helps!

Re: Cranking, no start issue.
i would say that when you put the cap and rotor back on you set your timing off. seems like you have checked all the other possibilities

Re: Cranking, no start issue.
If you didn't replace the plug wires one at a time, you could have put the #1 lead in the wrong tower of the cap. I did that once.

Re: Cranking, no start issue.
Did you use top quality parts? Stay away from imported parts from China. Its possible the condensor is bad?
