83 Chevy Silverado project!

After I sold my old 83 silverado due to being bombarded by problems I decided to buy another beat up 83 Silverado...This is my first project vehicle, any advice that you all could give me would be greatly appreciated. I will keep you all updated on how this project is going...

Re: 83 Chevy Silverado project!

I am also looking for a truck in that era. My advice would be body off approach to keep your time and money from rusting away with a truck this old.

You can do the frame youself.

Just pull the bed, cab, and front clip. If you have a sandblaster then protect anything brittle with a good thickness plastic sheet/ducktape and blast away. (you will need to paint immediately due to some bare metal) You can paint it yourself with any good primer gun. Just go to you local auto store and buy some matte black paint.

As for the body if your not experianced let a shop do it.

If you dont know much about engines or drive train the order a good crate engine and tranny. I am going to stroke my engine. I found a kit for $800. As for transmission Turbo 350/400 would be a great setup.

Okay... I found a tranny off of a 1979 Corvette, Would a 350 Turbo with a short tailshaft fit on my truck?
