98 security light on and car won't start

Hi, I'm new to this, I have a 98 aurora, Hate it right now, I turn the key and sometimes it starts and most of the time the security light comes on and then the clean key and wait 3 minutes stuff starts. I wait and keep trying and eventually, usually between 2-5 retries, it starts. Well, now it didn't start for 2 hours today, and not at all the other night. it started in the am.The security light stays on during this time, and flashes before putting the key in. What can I do. What is going on. My husband is ready to set the car on fire. I am just as frustrated with it. I can't afford a new car now but is there any way to stop this. do we bypass something or need something replaced. if so what is it. Oh when you touch the place where you put the key with finger it dings like you left your key in.

Re: 98 security light on and car won't start

I had a similar problem with my 97.
I took it to a place where the install Remote Starters. They bypassed the security issue as if they were installing a remote starter.
Cost about $40.00
No problems since.

Re: 98 security light on and car won't start

Yep. A trip to Radio Shack and about $2.00 worth of parts can bypass that. Just read the resistance in the black "chip" in the key. Then get a resistor(s) that match it. Under the dash you'll find an orange wire that goes off in it's own direction from the column. Follow it and it should go to a plug where you'll actually see 2 wires from that one orange one. Cut those wires in 1/2 and hook one end of the resistor to one end of the cut wires and the other to the other wire. This will be done to the wires that go towards the dash and NOT the column.
