looking into a new bike

Let me first begin by saying that i dont want to start another "which bike for beginner thread", but i feel my circumstances are different. I read all the threads that say get a small little 250 for a first bike...but i cant exactly do that..read why below..

hey im looking to get into motorcycling...but im a waaay taller than average dude.like 6'6 240ish 36" inseam.which is why im not lookin into a ninja 250 or something like that to start out on... i was told i should look into a dual sport or enduro bike. im looking for something about $3000ish dollars that will help me to transition to a sport bike later on after my MSF course. do u guys have any ideas for a good starter? it will be mostly for commuting a few miles to work and occassionally the 150 mile trek back home.

im not really into standard bikes..i like faired ones, but if i have to i would do an enduro/ dual sport.. are they any good ones of those? its really hard to do searchs for them on the internet because most people look at their dirt only aspect and not their street comfort

The Kawasaki KLR 650 is a really capable dual sport with ergos for a tall rider....I couldn't even get a leg over one

Re: looking into a new bike

I have NO idea what resale looks like on them, but I learned on a BMW F650GS Dakar (a dual sport) and even with my 34" inseam I was lucky to tiptoe on it.

Suzuki DRZ-400 another good dual sport.

I thought about the BMW too, but I don't think you could touch one for that price, ads I've seen were $5000-$7000 but doesn't hurt to look...

Re: looking into a new bike

The Suzuki DR650 is a lot like that Kwak, only better, because its a Suzuki. I sold mine for 2500 and it was 7 years old (5g new). I could have asked more though but i needed it gone.

Re: looking into a new bike

a 650R ninja or Sv650s with fairing kit would be a safe bet.
