Top End

Anyone have any ideas to add some top end to my RS that will be somewhat of a resonable price? If it means doing some internal work i will do it.

Re: Top End

I see you have listed custom exhaust, but does that include an aftermarket header? If not, a 4-1 design would improve top end, 4-2-1 design will give you a little top end and a little torque.

No it doesnt have a header, but i am getting a megan racing 4-1 header & full 2.5 or 3in exhaust to replace whats on there, there is a high flow cat and a can on it --> thats what was on it when i bought it...

You don't have to do anything?

My head cost me over $2,200 for a complete build (yes I counted everything). So that should give you a ball-park figure.

Re: Top End

Just do all the bolt ons and see if thats enough for you. You say you want top end, like you want to go 140mph? Or you want the car to be quicker in the high rpms?

Re: Top End

Don't go any bigger than 2.5" for the exhaust. 3" will just hinder performance.

Re: Top End

Thanks for the exhaust tip, and i was more looking for a higher top speed and a little more power in the higher rpm's and possibly a little more torque. Up to about 120mph, the car goes great, it has pretty good acceleration and enough power to make me happy, but it would be great to break that barrier and hopefully be able to hit 140 someday soon like you said. I seem to loose a good amount of power once i hit 120. Any ideas?

Re: Top End

The motor doesn't have enough power to get to that high or speeds. There is really no reason you should be going that fast. I have been stupied and done it to but if you get caught at those speeds your done for. And all that weight your adding with the sterio isint helping you.

Re: Top End

With the trunk i purposly designed it for the fact that it was going to be lightweight, removing the spare and the jack, i really didnt gain more then about five pounds from what i figured out. I built it using a frame of 2x2's and screws, and then covered it using a lightweight sound-proof foam, and i have black suede ariving probably tomorrow, to cover it all up. That may sound like a stupid design, but it actually turned out very well. There is also a hidden compartment for a nitrous tank if i choose to go in that direction because of some extra space i ended up with underneath the enclosure. I also mean this in the nicest way, but dont you think you are being a little hippocritical being as you turbo'd your RS? I am more or less wanting the power to have it if i go out to a track or something sometime, not for everyday use.

Re: Top End

If you want power then put a turbo on it, you didn't act like you wanted to spend that much money on it so I didn't suggest it. And if you are staying NA weight reduction is a big factor. You say you wanted to go faster well I was just letting you know that by adding weight you are making it a little slower.
It may only weigh 5lbs over the stock equipment you removed but if you removed that weight and didn't replace it then you could have lost about 20-30lbs. I cant say to much considering I have a system to.

He boosted his RS more for speeds under 120 mph I'm sure the way he's talking. There is no point to go any faster unless you do it on a track like you said, but unless you have extensive mods you won't even get close to those speeds in your RS in the 1/4.

Re: Top End

Ok, sorry, i think this is getting taken the wrong way, and yea you are right i really didnt want to spend a lot of money, i guess i was just trying to get some info and see where i could go with this problem. I guess i just want to know my car can hit a higher speed and have the power to do so if i ever had the opportunity to do it. Does that make sence? I think i kinda made myself look like an idot. Sorry again if i pissed anyone off, & for the confusion, But thanks for the info & opinions.
