Trac Off light and Slow Speed

My wife got in our 2004 GTP Friday and the traction Control off light was on. Also was the warning that the engine was at reduced power. She tried to drive it, but it would not go over 10 mph. She pulled over immediately and it started running rough. We had to have it towed to the GM dealer, but they can't get to it until late tomorrow. I don't have engine codes to give you. Does anyone have a possible answer for this. I am trying to make sure they don't just take my checkbook for a ride.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Trac Off light and Slow Speed

Best thing to do since you are taking to the dealer is have them scan it with their Tech II scan tool. It could be a bad wheel sensor (front end), wiring, the ABS EBTCM module or PCM module. The GTP has the full range traction control system to limit wheel spin. It operates only if one or both of the front wheels are spinning or beginning to lose traction. With the full range system the system works the front brakes and reduces engine power to limit the wheel spin. That would explain why you are losing driveability.

Re: Trac Off light and Slow Speed

Update.

The dealer tells me it is the throttle body. It is going to cost me $600.

Re: Trac Off light and Slow Speed

Thanks for the feedback. Ouch! $$$ I guess the scanner revealed a DTC related to the throttle body. I recall the '04 and up models have that drive by wire throttle system which people are having problems with.

Re: Trac Off light and Slow Speed

I just got the receipt with the OBD code. P1516. Maybe that will help someone later on.
