Cruise not working and O/D off light flashes
I have a 2000 ford windstar. About two weeks ago the cruise quit working, then about a week ago the O/D Off light started to flash when the van is stopped and in park. The light stops flashing and goes out when the van starts moving, the light starts flashing again when stopped and put back into park. I have also noticed that there is no longer any delay when shifting from reverse to drive. it used to have a slight delay ( 1 - 2 seconds). Now it jumps right into drive

Re: Cruise not working and O/D off light flashes
A common cause for no cruise control is the brake pressure switch that is located on the bottom of the brake master cylinder.
If you have a flashing O/D light, the electronics has detected a fault with the transmission or transmission controls. A common failure is the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) aka Neutral Safety Switch. You will need to take it to the dealer, or other shop to have the transmission codes read. Having the codes read will help you to pinpoint the cause of the problem.

Re: Cruise not working and O/D off light flashes
Hello I had the same problem with my o\d light flashing and I changed the TRS and it went away and cleared the code. I forget what the code was off the top of my head. I hope this helps!!!

Re: Cruise not working and O/D off light flashes
My '96 did this when I had a poor connection to the VSS (Velocity Speed Sensor). There was diagnotic code in the computer identifying the VSS problem. Although all that was needed was a new electrical connector to the speed sensor, the repair was a pain b/c I had to remove the exhaust "Y" pipe to access the connector.
My O/D light flashed while the van was moving. I don't recall if it also flashed while stopped or in park. |
