Another Lighting Issue

Have an 02 GP SE. Wondering if there is any way to bypass the fog lights so they will work alone. Currently requires the low beams on in order to have the fogs on. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I have seen a couple GP's in the area with the yellow "fog" lights on with the lower white fogs on but cannot replicate with mine.

Re: Another Lighting Issue

Do you have DRL? You should be able to use your fog lights along with just your parking lights if you don't havd DRL, which are the amber or yellow lights I think you are refering to. Are the yellow lights on the outsides of the headlight assembly? I have a 2000 GT and I can just turn my parking lights on and my fog lights will also come on. Not sure about the SE light system though. Hopefully this helps.

Re: Another Lighting Issue

I do have DRL's which I just "unplugged" today. My fogs now work with just the parking lights on which is a good improvement, but I was hoping to be able to run just the fogs with no other lights. I didnt want to have to bypass the wiring as I am not THAT mechanically inclined. Can do most anything necessary but try to stay away from the electrical. Too much to go wrong on these newer cars.

Re: Another Lighting Issue

To start you would need the GM FSM wiring diagrams and the mod would be centered around the fog light relay. The reason why GM does not give you separate control of the fog lights while head lights are on is for safety reasons. When you use the high beams the fog lights are turned off or inhibited. I am not aware of any popular mods or tech procedures other than the one below and making the fog lights stay on with the high beams. However, with patience and the right documentation you could come up with a solution to your satisfaction.

Using your fog lights as your Daytime Running Lights (Note: DRL must be disabled)
