Need Help!

I have a '97 Ford Ranger XLT. I just went to AutoZone and plugged it in because the check engine light was on. I didn't right down the error because I didn't have a pen and I don't know what it said exactly but something about a Heater Censor Error somethin Bank 1 and there was a second error that said the same but Bank 2. Does anyone know what this is or what I have to replace? Thanks.

Re: Need Help!

I'd go back and get the code run again, making sure I had a pen and some paper handy at the time. Just to be safe; you might be misremembering the trouble.

I'm probably way off base here, but it sounds like it could well be the O2 sensor.

And make sure you put down what engine your truck has in your next post.

Good luck!

I would be pretty sure the code you are referring to is for the O2 sensor heater. This could be related to the sensor, wiring, fuse PCM, etc. You will need to know which O2 sensor is causing the problem. Bank 1, Bank 2, Sensor 1, Sensor 2, and you will need to know the location of these sensors. For instance , were is HO2S 12? Many times this is just the heater circuit in the O2 sensor and a sensor is the fix. It can be other issues though. Replacing the sensor that is flagged by the PCM is a quick (maybe) fix, if the good friends at Autozone can tell you which sensor the code is for and where it is located, with a guarantee that in the event that they are wrong they will take the sensor back. Otherwise I would recommend to my best friends getting on http://www.iatn.net/shopfinder/ and locating a trustworthy repair facility close to you and go through the diagnostic process. It may be less painful in the long run. You may even find a garage you can trust. Good luck with your fix. Give me the code and I will try to help you locate which sensor if you want to take a shot.
