my 1996 oldmsobile silhouette has had a annoying tapping from the engine for 2 months now, at first it was only when the engine was cold, once it warmed up the tapping ceased, i figured maybe a oil port was blocked so i changed the oil, it stopped for only a week then the tapping returned but now it is constant and gets louder when I accelerate. I wonder if this is terminal or is it something i can fix myself.

Sounds like a noisy hydraulic lifter (sorry for the pun). Probably not terminal. Sometimes a can of oil additive from the parts store will free stuck lifters, sometimes not.
