Sanded my headlights....

So I finally got tired of looking at those nasty yellow headlights. Some of you may remember my idea of putting a coat of clear over them but I just didn't have the time to do it when I go home. I am very pleased with the way they turned out.

Re: Sanded my headlights....

It looks like the pictures on the left are the after pics? Hard to say because of the lighting though. The bottom left pic looks good.

Re: Sanded my headlights....

Yea the ones on the left are the after. You can kinda see how bad they were on the top right pic. Should have done this a long time ago. I think it took around 4-5 hours to do the whole thing. There is no way to get the lights out with the bumper on.

Re: Sanded my headlights....

Started with 320,400,600,800,1000,1500, then 2000. Then used mothers mag & aluminum polish to make them shine.

Wow I hope you didn't sand them so far down that now when you get a nice sized rock fly up at you they shatter. I plan on doing mine next summer when I get *cough NEW PAINT cough* and I won't touch mine with less than 1,000 to begin with and end with 2,000.

Re: Sanded my headlights....

320 is wayyyy too rough, so is 400, 600 isn't so bad, but i bet you took off alot of material there. It took me about 15 minutes with an orbital buffer to get my headlights looking like new again. I realize not everyone has access to an orbial buffer, but I bet if you gave a bodyshop $20 they would do it for you right there. I didn't even take them out, just be careful not to hit sharp edges of the paint otherwise you'll buff right through in minutes.

Re: Sanded my headlights....

Those lenes are pretty thick, I also didn't use to much pressure so they should be fine. Im really not concerned about it.

Re: Sanded my headlights....

Lol well I would have taken the easy route and bring it to the local body shop except my poor dsm is grounded in my garage...dont have the pics up yet but I used an orbital sander at school that runs on compressed air (one of my favs with wood working) with some 1000, 1500, and 2000 this morning...god they are gorgeous
