99 Sable wont start

Have a 99 Sable DOHC that won't start occasonialy (3 times in the last month) usually if i dont start it for at least 8 hours. The car turns over like it wants to start and i have spark at all times. I can hear the fuel pump turn on. Took the battery into Autozone and they tested it and said it was fine. Have hooked up jumper cables to give it some extra boost and it starts sometimes. As soon as the car fires up it runs just fine nothing wrong with it and no difference in MPG. Lately using the cables has not done the trick. I have read to turn the key into the on and off position 7 times and that has worked. Any ideas????

I had the same problem with my '97 at one point. When it sat for a length of time >12 or so hours it took forever to turn over.

Turns out my fuel filter was clogged. A inexpensive first "try" to fix it. When was the last time you change that filter?

Re: 99 Sable wont start

Could be the fuel filter. Turning it off and on a few times tells me that there isn't enough fuel getting to the injectors under the pressure they need to be to run the car. It could also be the Fuel Pressure Regulator. It might not be holding pressure and that's why it takes so long to start. Since most cars need a fuel filter I"d do that first anyway. Then, if it continues to be a problem I would replace the Fuel Pressure Regulator.
