High RPM

Ok, so I have a 2000 Montana van, and lately the RPM has been going way up while it is just idling. Not sure what the problem is, or how to fix it, so any help would be awesome.

Thanks for the time.

Re: High RPM

Check for a vacuum leak and also remove and clean the idle air control motor. It could be sticking in the open position. Clean the pintle on the motor (but don't move it) using throttle body cleaner. This should help the problem.

Re: High RPM

Could you explain where the idle air control motor is, I'm kind of a newbie.

Hi, the moderator is probably busy, as they are volunteers and their time is appreciated.
The idle motor is located on the throttle body, is black and held on by two screws.

Re: High RPM

Sorry about not getting back to you earlier. The idle air control motor is a small motor located on the side of the throttle body on the engine. It controls the idle of the car. If they get dirty they can do a lot of things and fast idle is one of them. They can be cleaned by removing them and spraying the pintle with throttle body cleaner. If you do this yourself don't move the pintle while it is out just spray it with the cleaner, let it dry and replace it in the throttle body.
