92 Taurus gl No park lamps,no dash lights?

The bargin 1992 Taurus gl has no dash lights,No park lamps, clock setting goes back to 12 when key is turned off .All fuses check out fine.I had to replace the 9007 bulbs for headlamps now they work on low and high also 4 bulbs in the rear even though they looked fine. This car has a remote of some sort hooked up.It has the wire above the rear view mirror and the toggle under the dash if that might have something to do with this,Do not have the remote for that option.Car has only 73k and looks and runs great other than the park lamps, dimmer and clock.Let me know if you have any ideas where to look.I also noticed the nut on the headlamp turn switch is very loose along with the ignition switch. Thanks

Re: 92 Taurus gl No park lamps,no dash lights?

Sounds like someone had installed an aftermarked alarm and/or remote start system. Chances are pretty good that they also put in an aftermarket radio at some time. I'd suggest you start by checking the wiring behind the radio, looking for signs of clipped and taped wires. If you find some, you'll want to carefully inspect the wires and repair and properly insulate any questionable wires or splices.

If the radio wiring has not been disturbed, then you'll want to locate and inspect the wiring in a similar fashion for the security/start system. Since you don't have the remote, you may as well remove the system incase it has an internal fault.

An alarm/remote start system could certainly cause an issue with the parking light/dash lights. Typically, alarm and remote start systems will flash the parking lights to indicate status.

Not sure on the frequency of headlight switch failures on the '92.

Re: 92 Taurus gl No park lamps,no dash lights? FIXED NOW

PROBLEM SOLVED! It was the headlamp switch.Had gotten hot and burned the plug on the back.Part stores charge $25 but could not order the plug.Went to a salvage yard got one for $10 and cut the plug off.2 out of 3 plugs I looked at were burned.Must be a problem with them.Oh well Mine is fixed for now until the next thing goes bad.
