Steering squeel

Ok, so I went to that HMA website about my power steering squeel, but it was no help. The troubleshooting section only said to tighten the belt, well, the belt is tight. I had just finished my yearly oil change and my yearly transmission fluid change and I thought I might try to get the steering squeel stopped. I bled the air out according to the HMA website, change the fluid.....yet the squeel remains. The website did say something about a flow control valve.....does anyone know where that is??

Re: Steering squeel

no, don't know about the flow control valve but usually an accessory squeel is due either because of the belt (not the case here) or the shaft bearing inside the accessory itself (the power stearing here).

I had a squeel I couldn't point out once on an old 89 Corolla, finally the alternator died and I found out it was one of the bearing inside the alternator that was causing the squeel, I had it rebuild and they changed the bearing, never squeeled after that.

Re: Steering squeel

Hey,

Thanks for the reply. This is what happens...when you turn the wheel, the pump locks up and the belt slips, it slips on the pulley that also turns the water pump. The pump is new plus it did this with the old pump, leading me to believe that the pump is not the problem. It started all of a sudden when I changed the belt. As soon as I changed the belt, the squeeling started. i didn't touch anything else. It was not making a sound before. Its to the point where it is embarrassing and Im considering replacing the car, even though everything still works fine. Thanks.

Re: Steering squeel

ok then the belt itself is the problem, you better go get a new one directly at a Hyundai dealer!
