Placement of JackStands

2003 Corolla 60000 miles.
I would like to check the rear drum brakes on my wife's corolla. My question is - where can I safely place the jackstands?? Actually front and back as I should check all four brakes!! I know where the jack points are for my floor jack, just wonder where to put the jackstands so I don't damage car.

Re: Placement of JackStands

I use the jack points and place a piece on 1x2 pine board between the car and the stand.

Re: Placement of JackStands

The Rear Brake Drums needs a lot of attention when it comes to lifting the car high enough to work on it.

These are some jack stands that are used for lifting the car.

I used one similar to this...

I put this stand between the car door and the mud flaps.

There is about a half an inch of metal that fits just right for this jack.

It's very safe because if you do have a problem kicking the drum off you don't have to worry about tilting or tipping the car.

If you need more then this small jack and want to lift it higher just have 2 ready.

1 to lift the car then slide a block about 4 x 8 cut 1 foot long or more (you won't need more then a foot but what ever works) slide the other 1 on the block under the car and up you go.

If your really in a bind under the harsh conditions of not knowing what to do use another tires rim-(Dangerous Unless Your Really Careful)

THIS IS HOW TO DO IT!

Twist the lugs till they spin off easy

Step 1. Lift the car up with jack number 1
Step 2. Place tire under the frame of the car
Step 3. Place jack on tire in a firm position (BE CAREFUL)
Step 4. Make sure the jack is sturdy and crank it
Step 5. Make sure you align the jack correctly to the frame
Step 6. Move the other jack out from under the car (or don't touch it at all)
Step 7. Kick the tire off or wiggle it works too
Step 8. Slide the Brake Drum Cover off
Step 9. Hit it with a big hammer a few times till it wiggles free if step 8 fails.
Step 10. Look inside at the problem and fix it
Step 11. Sorry but you need to figure that out on your own

Hope this post helps everyone who needs to fix brake drums.

Have fun and stay super safe or you'll die another victim of accidental vehicular suicide.
