2001 Park Avenue Driver's Side Air Bag Removal

What is the correct procedure for the removal of the driver's side airbag for this car? I see a few small holes at the back of the steering wheel housing and a couple of small black screw heads.

Thank you.

There is a special tool that usually used by the dealers for this, but you can probably manage with the use of a small screwdriver or something.. You can't really see into those slots, so what I would suggest is to use a small mirror and a flashlight to try and get a view. What you are going to do is keep outward pressure on the air bag as you try to disengage the clips in the back.. You need to keep pressure on it or else the clip that you just disengaged will slide back in to place. There are 4 of these, and you will probably use alot of profanities. I wish I could show you, it would be so much easier.. but I hope this helps a bit. Good luck.

Re: 2001 Park Avenue Driver's Side Air Bag Removal

Sounds a little awkward. I have a brand new OEM steering wheel I'm eager to install. The original one is tired, even with very low miles. The vinyl areas at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock are degrading, discolored and ugly, and the leather is losing its dye.

Love the car but hate the poor quality interior components...

Thanks for getting back.
